Helping Hands Project

At Santa Barbara Honda, we’ve made a promise to all our neighbors. It’s a promise of commitment; a promise to give back. The families and people who live in and around Santa Barbara, CA matter deeply to us. That’s why we’ve promised to help support our community by getting involved in a variety of causes, charities, and organizations right here in our own neighborhood. Coastal Cleanup Day 2022

Coastal Cleanup Day

Date: Saturday, September 17, 2022

We love this community and were honored to participate in the annual #CoastalCleanUpDayevent. Over 10,000 pounds of trash was collected in Goleta. We’re grateful for our staff and all the other volunteers who joined in this cleanup effort. Together, we can make a difference in our community!

Coastal Cleanup Day

The largest volunteer effort in California, Coastal Cleanup Day is our day to give back to the ocean, beaches, and creeks that make Santa Barbara County such a wonderful place to live. Coastal Cleanup Day is brought to you by Explore Ecology and our partner the County of Santa Barbara Resource Recovery and Waste Management, with support from Project Clean Water and the Cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Solvang. The California Coastal Commission organizes the statewide event and the international event is organized by the Ocean Conservancy.

Coastal Cleanup Day is part of a much larger international event. With 60% of the cleanup sites reporting, the California count stands at 27,185 volunteers who picked up 220,861 pounds of trash and an additional 29,702 pounds of recyclable materials. The total so far statewide is 250,563 pounds or 125 tons.

All proceeds raised benefit and support the year-round sports training and competitions in 12 Olympic-type sports, helping Santa Barbara County athletes develop physical fitness and demonstrate courage. It was a true joy to celebrate these athletes and do our part to advocate support for these programs.

MISSION

Special Olympics transforms lives through the joy of sport, every day, everywhere.

We are the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities: with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries — and millions more volunteers and supporters. We are also a global and social movement.

Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills, and success. The athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment — on the playing field and in life. They also inspire people in their communities and elsewhere to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential. Please view the following video to see the full spectrum of our activities.

Special Olympics Santa Barbara County enriches the lives of more than 550 athletes with intellectual disabilities and their communities through sports, education, and athlete health. Special Olympics Santa Barbara County is one of nine regional programs of Special Olympics Southern California and offers year-round sports training and competitions for athletes.
