It’s hard to understate just how monumental the Honda Civic is. You probably pass by a hundred of them on your drive to work every morning—over 12 million have been sold in the U.S. since its debut in 1973, making it the longest-lasting Honda nameplate ever made.
There’s a reason it’s so popular. The Civic embodies the quality, reliability, and efficiency that Honda is known for, and it does so with exquisite style.
New for 2025, the 11th generation Civic has gotten a major refresh, and the Honda Civic hybrid makes its triumphant return to American roads. Here are all the deets.
Reintroducing the Honda Civic Hybrid
The Civic has been conspicuously without a hybrid electric powertrain since the previous generation, and now nearly a decade after that debut, a new Civic hybrid will be available to shoppers in Goleta, CA.
Because it’s a brand new powerplant, official EPA numbers for the 2025 Honda Civic’s fuel economy have yet to be released, but based on Honda’s official statements, we fully expect it to get around 50 miles per gallon combined.
The new hybrid engine might be the most powerful non-Type R Civic ever. Current Honda estimates say that it’ll crank out 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque thanks in part to the powerful dual electric motors, which deliver quicker torque than your standard gas engine setup. The electric motors will do the bulk of the heavy lifting to motivate the Civic at low speeds, while the gas-powered engine kicks on to help during heavy acceleration.
To further bolster fuel efficiency, Civic hybrids will have four customizable levels of regenerative braking, as well as three selectable drive modes (Econ, Normal, and Sport). A Linear Shift Control feature is also implemented to mirror the classic feeling of an automatic transmission shifting through the gears when you put your foot down on the gas pedal.
The new hybrid powertrain will replace the 1.5-liter turbo engine of yesteryear, and it will be standard on Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims. The economical 2.0-liter four-cylinder will still be available to budget-conscious buyers and will be the default motor in the LX and Sport trims.
Shiny New Technology
In another major shakeup, for the first time, the Civic will be available with Google built-in technology this year. This 3-year unlimited data plan comes with the top-tier Sport Touring Hybrid, and it ups the infotainment game with access to Google Maps for navigation, Google Play Store to download apps, and voice commands through Google Assistant. Implementing this hands-free technology is Honda’s next step toward guaranteeing their cars are the safest on the road.
Speaking of safety—updates for the advanced driver assistance include Blind Spot with Rear Cross Traffic alert, which is included in all Sport-designated trims. In addition, the robust Honda Sensing suite is standard in all models, and includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assist System.

With all of these stellar safety features, it’s no wonder that the Civic is one of the most popular cars for young drivers.
Updates Inside and Out
The 2025 Civic will still be available in both sedan and hatchback body styles, except for the LX trim, which will only be sold as a sedan.
Handling and suspension benefit from new spring and damper tuning, while hybrid models also come complete with Active Noise Cancellation to offset the near-silent electric motors.
The general profile and chassis will remain largely the same, but the new Civic will receive some design tweaks too. Most notably, the front fascia has been overhauled, with larger side air inlets and new dimensions for the grille. Headlamps have also been revamped. The overall vibe will be more aggressive, a decidedly intentional choice meant to match the Civic’s aesthetics with its bombastic new performance specs.
The ’25 Civic features four exciting new paint colors to choose from: Urban Gray Pearl, Solar Silver Metallic, Blue Lagoon Pearl (sedan only) and Sand Dune Pearl (hatchback only).
Inside, standard issue equipment has been added to every trim across the board. All models now come with frontal USB-C ports, and the top-level hybrids are fitted with standard dual climate control, heated seats, and a moonroof.
